Last night I went on my local Fox station to discuss the most recent study released by The Parents Television Council. It covers popular MTV "reality" shows, like Jersey Shore, Teen Mom, 16 & Pregnant, and Real World. If there's ever a reason to push for Cable Choice, it's now.
You are paying for this content. You may not watch MTV or VH1 or even want it with your cable lineup, but regardless, you're paying for it. Every bleeped word, every moronic antic? Yup, you paid for it. If Viacom wants to peddle this 'entertainment' via cable companies everywhere, go for it. It's a free market. But don't expect me to pay for someone else's entertainment choices.
It's kind of like going to Asia de Cuba on Madison Avenue and paying for my neighbor's dessert.
Make sure to voice your support for Cable Choice. Call your cable provider and let them know they need to offer Cable Choice or they'll lose a customer.

Cable choice doesn't really work. It takes time for a cbale channel to develop quaility programming and attract viewers and if we had cable choice, no one would select these channels in the first place. Comedy central for example languished for years before it became sucessful, but if cable choice had existed it woulod have gone off the air and we never would have seen the artistic beauty of south park or Chapelles show. I have all kinds of channels I never watch, like ABC Family, the hallmark channel. Nothing but garbage, but..... I'm glad I have them because if someone visits and likes those kinds of tv, I'm glad we have them.
Nowadays we can watch what we want on the internet and pay the connection fee. Cable choice is the right thing; I do not want to subsidize smut. If people stop cable and go to Netflix or stream what they want online, cable will be a thing of the past and some of the smutty programming will go out of business God willing.
